The Iranian People's Revolution has been ongoing since 1979.

The 1979 Islamic Revolution fundamentally changed Iran into a religious authoritarian state, resulting in profound social, economic, and political shifts. The government has implemented stringent social controls, which, coupled with mismanagement, have led to significant inflation, widespread human rights abuses, including torture and executions, and the imposition of international sanctions. As a result, the country is experiencing pervasive societal unrest, dictatorship, escalating poverty levels with skyrocketing inflation, and high rates of youth unemployment. Despite the Iranian people's persistent struggle to reclaim their nation from the Islamic Republic over the past 47 years and pursuit of freedom, human rights, and democracy, their efforts have been largely overlooked by social media and the global political landscape—and violently suppressed by the leadership of the Islamic Republic and its allied mercenaries.

The 2026 “Lion and Sun” revolution initiated by the Iranian populace, which prominently featured the pre-Islamic Republic national flag with the symbol of the Lion and Sun at its center, saw massive street demonstrations within the country and united most of the diaspora. Those courageous protestors sought to reclaim their freedom, cultural identity, and sovereignty, even in the face of unprecedented use of state-sanctioned violence against them. The Iranian people’s one goal (and our mission at Lion and Sun NY!) is Iran's re-engagement with the global community in a manner that honors Iran’s rich cultural heritage and historical significance as a prominent civilization. We will have achieved this goal when the current repressive regime collapses, an orderly, peaceful transition begins under the leadership of Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi towards a democratic and free Iran, and the leaders of the Islamic Republic are held accountable for their crimes against humanity by an independent and fair process. Like all Iranians, we at Lion and Sun NY work towards the day when Iran is a shining example of freedom: a nation that enshrines equal rights for all its citizens in its legal system, upholds the rule of law, and champions human rights.
